“Their lead singer has a voice that could break many a heart...”
- Abandon Theatre
"Lindsey's pitch and range were remarkable; convincing me he’s got one of the region’s best voices."
- Scott Tady, Allegheny Times
The soulful, yet intricate vocal phrases; the contemporary melodies echoing the great rock and soul masters of the past; the dimples every woman wants to pinch; the acrobatic tricks of his eyebrows...This is Joel Lindsey.
When the first note from this gifted singer rings from the stage, the pure emotion and dedication of a lifetime of songwriting ensnares the audience’s attention. From the driving rhythms of End of the Show to the contemplative The Man in the Photograph, Joel promises something for everyone’s taste.
During his studies in Graphic Arts at Central Saint Martin's College of Art, London, England, The Royal National Youth Theatre recruited his dramatic talents, leading to his work under the musical and theatrical direction of Gary Kemp (Spandau Ballet) and Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd). This invaluable experience provided the training for performing to a large theatre audience, yet retaining his rock/soul characteristics. During this time, Joel wrote, directed, and performed a play at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, receiving excellent reviews over its two week run.
After graduation Joel expanded his sound to form THE JOEL LINDSEY BAND, writing and performing on acoustic guitar, piano, and drums across London, with a uniquely crossbred sound of soul, funk, rock, and swing. Influenced by Free, The Beatles, Jeff Buckley and Stevie Wonder, his rich melodies and memorable hooks, which he and his brother and co-writer, Marlon create, continue to gain the support of an ever-growing international fan base and the respect of the music industry.
Since his return to Pittsburgh, Joel has become a regular fixture at the top acoustic venues in the region and is regularly featured in the local media. In addition to his own performances, Joel encourages other local talent through his weekly music showcases for the organization AcoustiCafe. Now in the process of forming a new band with Pittsburgh's most requested bassist, James Kurasch and skilled djembe player Chris Massa Joel looks at 2008 as the opportunity to elevate his unique musical vision and continue his pursuit for the Return of the Melody.
